Mission

stoff♻wert gives wrongly disposed plastic a second chance to be recycled.

stoff♻wert’s mission is to bring back the wert to the stoff. We rescue old plastic that has been unlawfully deposited in landfills and bring it back to the city– and into the value chain. Customers get 0,94€ for each kilogram of plastic they take home, to dispose of in their own yellow bins. There, it gets picked up by the local recycling service and gets another chance to be recycled.

We save plastic, you save the planet–one bag at a time.

In the German recycling system, plastic is Wertstoff– valuable material. Durable and transformable, plastic can be reshaped into different products, even after being used, and it can repeatedly create value for producers and consumers. But when this precious material ends up in the landfill, it turns into enduring trash, polluting oceans and soils for millions of years.

stoff♻wert is a revolutionary concept that recreates value by putting valuable plastic back into circulation. As soon as a customer picks up a bag, this plastic transforms again into a product with increasing value in the market.

From stuck in the dump to moving again in the chain: 100% increase in product value.

stoff♻wert gives back to society the power to create transformation. Each of us can bring one bag of plastic to our yellow bins. And we can empty illegal landfills, one shopping bag by shopping bag, one bin at a time.

Solutions

Looking to get your own value bag or to support the mission? Stoff♻wert has models to spread and to scale.

stoff♻wert’s primary platform is the market stand.

We want to reach as many people as possible to join the effort to give landfill plastic a second chance.

A small 0,94€ subsidy and stoffwert’s carefully designed plastic totes make it easy and pleasurable to carry a share of plastic home. Our customers take as little as half a kilo, but as much as ten or more bags with our convenient weigh-and-take platform. Each customer signs a contract, formally agreeing to dispose of the plastic exclusively in the appropriate recycling bin.

About

In 2022, the Norddeutscher Rundfunk uncovered landfills full with German plastic in Poland. We asked the journalists of www.muellrausch.de about illegal landfills in and around Berlin. What we found were full halls with thousands of cubic metres of pressed plastic.

We asked ourselves: How much of our plastic does not get recycled, and how much value is lost when it gets misled to the landfill? How much value is stuck in the piles of plastic in the halls in Treuenbrietzen, Germany?

Where many see a tragedy without solution, we saw the potential for a more sustainable world, built and fueled with material that is there, but has not been recycled yet.

We wanted to take matters into our own hands. But we knew that this could only work if everyone took a little into their hands, as well. At stoffwert we believe in the wager that citizen responsibility can revert tragedies as big as the landfill in Treuenbrietzen.
